ISCAST Victoria Congratulates Prof Alan Gijsbers

ISCAST Victoria is proud to congratulate Dr Alan Gijsbers on his recent appointment to Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne, held in the Department of Medicine at the Royal Melbourne and Western Hospitals. The title acknowledges his important contribution to scholarship, recognising his professional achievements as one of the leading clinicians in the Faculty of Medicine.

According to his colleagues, Alan is one of the most respected Alcohol & Other Drugs Specialists in Victoria and it is terrific to see this formally recognised. His colleagues speak highly of his integrity and skills in the areas of clinical work, teaching, training and research, especially many GPs who are in the frontline of patient care. His thinking about the treatment of addiction has frequently been regarded as influential with regard to policy and decision making within the specialty. Greg Whelan, Professor of Addiction Medicine at Monash and Melbourne universities, acknowledges that it is also great for the specialty of Addiction Medicine to have someone of Alan’s calibre given the appointment.

We wish Alan all the best in the next stage of his career, and look forward to his continuing involvement in the activities of ISCAST Victoria.
